Happy 8!

December 11, 2004

When you get married, you really have no idea what you’re getting yourself into. It’s easy to exchange vows, it’s harder to live them. It’s easy to love each other when life is better, richer, and in health. But, you really get to know someone in worse, poorer, and sickness.

Eight years ago, I had no idea what I was getting. I knew she was beautiful. I knew she had captured my heart and imagination in a way that no one could.¬†What I didn’t know was that God had just given me the greatest gift imaginable – my radiant wife, Lis.

We’ve had our “better, richer, and in health” moments. We’ve already done so much for a couple of 3o year olds. We’ve experienced such great joy… together.

For every mountain top moment, there have also been the valleys. What I’ve learned about my wife is this – for better or worse, for richer or poorer, in sickness and in health, I have been blessed to share every moment with Elisabeth Angela Burns.

Today I honor you, Lis. Thank you for risking everything with me, for dreaming with me, for loving me the way you do, for just being you. I love you. I hope my life is a constant reflection of the love I feel. Here’s to many more years together!

Happy Anniversary, my love!
